Rumtek Dharma Chakra Centre
This monastery is the seat of the Kagyu order, a major Tibetan Buddhist Sects. After the arrival of His Holiness the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa in late 1960’s, the centre became a treasure house of some of the world’s most unique religious scriptures and rare religious objects.
Directorate of Handicraft & Handloom
This Institute aims to promote and keep alive the State’s traditional arts and craft and is a storehouse of handwoven woollen carpets and traditional motifs, blanket, shawl in Lepcha weaves and exquisitely carved ‘choktse’ or table.
Tsomgo Lake
Situated at an altitude of 3,780 m, about 40km away from Gangtok, This serene lake is open to both the foreign and Indian nationals. This lake remains frozen during the winter months but with the arrival of spring a variety of flowers bloom here including the rhododendrons, primulas, blue and yellow poppies and iris. The area around it is an ideal habitat of the Red Panda and various species of birds.
Nathula
‘Nathula’ Pass, located at an altitude of 14,200 feet bordering India and China in the Tibetan Plateau, is one of the highest motorable roads. Located 56 kms from Gangtok, it is a tranquil place to visit.
